galaxy digital sells ethereum

Crypto investment giant Galaxy Digital has offloaded a staggering 25,000 Ethereum worth over $40 million to Binance in a series of calculated moves. The transfers, executed over three days in mid-April 2025, arrived like tremors before an earthquake – subtle yet significant in the volatile crypto landscape.

The company’s digital wallet emptied in methodical waves, with 12,500 ETH flowing to Binance on April 12th and another 12,500 ETH following on April 15th. The timing raises eyebrows across the crypto community. These massive transfers emerged shortly after Galaxy Digital settled a $200 million LUNA market manipulation case with New York authorities.

Like a chess player repositioning after losing a bishop, the firm appears to be recalibrating its strategy amid legal pressures. The April 12th transactions – worth roughly $19.74 million – set the stage for the second act three days later, when another $20.37 million in ETH made its exodus to Binance’s waiting coffers. Spot Bitcoin ETFs have demonstrated strong institutional demand since their January approval, adding pressure to the broader crypto market.

Galaxy Digital’s strategic ETH exodus signals a calculated recalibration following regulatory setbacks, not panic selling.

Ethereum’s price felt the ripple effects almost immediately. The digital asset slipped from $1,677 to $1,641 as these institutional coins entered circulation, while trading volume on Binance surged to 1.2 million ETH. The market’s reaction resembled a nervous twitch – subtle but revealing.

Galaxy Digital didn’t stop at Ethereum. Their portfolio shuffling extended to 5 million USDT, 100,000 USDC, and even a modest splash of Avalanche tokens. The company’s remaining treasury now holds a mere 200 ETH, alongside 18,150 AVAX and nearly $8 million in stablecoins. Galaxy also continues to maintain significant stablecoin reserves with DAI worth $4.2 million among its holdings.

This dramatic liquidity shift coincides with broader market currents – Ethereum spot ETFs logged net outflows while whale activity intensified across the ecosystem. Some whales were scooping ETH from exchanges while others deployed capital into DeFi protocols like Aave and Compound. The settlement stemmed from Galaxy’s undisclosed LUNA sales while simultaneously promoting the token to investors.

As Galaxy Digital’s once-hefty ETH position settles into Binance’s exchange wallets, the market watches and waits – unsure if this institutional adjustment signals trouble ahead or simply prudent portfolio management in crypto’s ever-shifting tides.
